Transport problems

"Another problem that farmers here face is the lack of basic infrastructure.

The roads are terrible, which makes the cost of transporting our goods into town for processing and sale very expensive.

A 75km journey can take three hours. The petrol costs to us are huge. The gins, which process the cotton, pay for this cost. We therefore sell our raw cotton to them at a lower price.

Some say the middle-men such as these take our profits but the reality is we need them."
