"I took this photo when a passenger on one of the 'air circuses' which toured the UK in the 1930s offering the thrill of flying to pleasure seekers," says Ernie McIntyre from Edinburgh.

He added: "We sat behind the pilots in open two-seater aeroplanes which took off west of Stirling Castle.

"I near panicked when the pilot said we would be looping the loop. There was no buckle on the safety belt of the machine which had seen better days.

"But we looped nevertheless."
