Photo journal: UN worker in Afghanistan

Entering the UN compound is always interesting as the young, eager and newly trained guards are still getting used to the idea of carrying a weapon.

I'm occasionally concerned that they haven't done up their bootlaces or made sure "the safety" is on their Pakistani AK-47.

So far, they have proven my scepticism to be unfounded.
