The government has given women the right to education but they will not defend many more rights, especially not outside the capital. For women and girls in Herat every decision of every day presents dangers or challenges - where can they can go? How they can get there and whom they can go with?

In Herat women have been arrested for not wearing a burqa, travelling without a male relative or talking to strangers.
