In pictures: Saris and temples

Ms Boulanger devoted much of her time between 1980 and 1996 to travelling throughout south, central and eastern India for her research on saris and temples. She photographed hundreds of women - including this gypsy - in traditional attire. She was particularly concerned that sari styles and different ways of wearing the garment should not be forgotten. Her research on saris has been internationally acclaimed.
