After about an hour the protesters have marched approximately 500 metres along the street and the organisers call a halt to the protest. Khaled slips away.

"I had to disappear before the demo was over. Activists like me who are known to the police have to be careful about when we appear and disappear to reduce our chances of getting arrested."

He usually travels by taxi rather than metro to reduce the walking time when he says he is vulnerable to arrest.
