The demo begins

The protest is in a square in one of Cairo’s poor neighbourhoods.

By the time we arrive, about 50 people are shouting anti-Mubarak slogans and waving banners ranging from hand-scrawled placards to communist flags.

Usama (centre) is an Islamist Youth for Change member.

"Speaking about Mubarak used to be taboo, like speaking about God.

"Now it’s possible, not because the system is democratic, but because the opposition has, thank God, smashed the barrier of fear."
