Gerri cannot cross the road wherever she chooses unless there is somebody there to help her up or down the high kerbs.

But it requires some strength and know-how to manoeuvre the wheelchair up onto the pavement and has the added risk of the well-meaning stranger accidentally tipping her out of the chair.
