Moscow, Central European Russia
The needs of children with mental disabilities have historically been low on the list of priorities in Russia.
There are 155 state orphanages or ‘Internats’ across Russia housing up to 29,000 children, most in appalling states of disrepair.
However, this is slowly changing. At this internat located in a suburb south of Moscow the children are well cared for, have an abundance of toys and are properly fed and clothed.
