Up to 30 times a week, Nurse Ana Maria Terrazas Blass announces a phone call from Spain to family left in Tablas Monte.

The health centre has the only telephone in the village.

Ana says it’s been much quieter since the exodus, despite the phone calls. "Now there are only women at the community meetings," she says.

"But the village is better off now because more money is coming from Spain."
