"I need to stay in Tablas Monte because I'm the only leader left," says beekeeper Gumercindo Orozco Lopez.

The society here is made up of indigenous Quechua and Aymará people, and is run on traditional lines.

Gumercindo is worried about the loss of community wisdom and leadership caused by the departure of most of the elders.

"Also I wouldn't want to leave my five children behind," he says.
