Photojournal: Aceh village six months on
Lampuuk mosque

The mosque was the only building left standing in Lampuuk village after December’s earthquake and tsunami hit Indonesia's Aceh province. A once thriving community was reduced to rubble by the force of the waves.

Six months on, piles of debris remain scattered across the village. Six thousand people used to live here - teachers and doctors, farmers and fishermen. Fewer than a thousand survived.

It is a picture repeated for mile after mile along this west coast of Aceh.
