In pictures: Hardship and hope in Haiti

Nanie Bruno is one of thousands of Haitians who settled in the United States but have been deported since the attacks of 11 September 2001.

She has not gone out much since returning home a month ago, because she is scared of the violence. Tears streaming down her face, she says she longs to be reunited with her husband and children, who remain in the US.

"I didn't do anything wrong," Nanie says. "I didn't commit a crime. I worked hard and paid the bills."
