Amid the lawlessness, the radio is an important way for Haitians to get the news. Here Harrisson Earnest, a reporter for the small Megastar Radio station, brings listeners the news that seven people have just been shot dead.

But in the polarised context of Haitian politics radio journalism can be a dangerous business. The station owner Jean Elie Charles claims he has been beaten up for allowing the former ruling Lavalas party too much air time. "We are still fighting for the truth," he says.
