Tap-tap painter

Edward Jean Romel, known as Roro, earns a living painting the tap-tap buses which - crammed full of people and pounding out music - are such a distinctive sight on Port-au-Prince's streets.

Roro, one of the city's more successful painters, says he can work to order or create his own designs. He says it takes three or four days to complete a bus and estimates that over his 15-year career he has painted more than 1,000.
