Guadalupe Gonzalez, 37, is one of the thousands of mainly-Hispanic migrants who work as tomato-pickers in the fields of Immokalee, southern Florida.

"I came here from Oaxaca (Mexico) eight months ago with nothing but the shirt on my back. I plan to stay two years," he says.

A "friend" had assured him he could earn up to $8 an hour north of the border - the reality turned out to be very different.
