A one-day photographic exhibition is taking place in Nelson Mandela’s old cell at Pollsmoor Maximum Security Prison on South Africa’s Freedom Day, 27 April.

Photographer Mikhael Subotzky says given South Africa’s history under apartheid, “prisons are firmly rooted in the consciousness of this country”.

His show Die Vier Hoeke aims to highlight the massive overcrowding problems within prisons today.
