Test

The nearby Nsanama Catholic Hospital struggles to cope with growing numbers of outpatients with Aids-related diseases.

“When patients complain of chronic fever, severe diarrhea or oral thrush, or look severely malnourished, we suspect HIV/Aids,” says nurse Zioni Kaunda, 24.

“Our hospital cannot provide anti-retroviral drugs. Instead we send them to the district hospital 10km away to take the HIV test. Most can't afford the bus fare and we fear they return to their village."
