The BBC News website looks at the impact Aids is having in the village of Njoho in southern Malawi.

It is village chief Ajasi Mphwala’s duty to cut a path through long grass surrounding the cemetery so families can bury their loved ones.

But with the HIV/Aids prevalence rate here nearing 50% and the worst food crisis in 10 years, coffin-bearing carts have long since turned the grass into a furrowed track.

“There are times I wish had never become chief,” he says.
