Photo journal: Eritrean cactus-picker

There are so many cactii all over the mountains here, but not everybody lives near to the road.

Some people pick the beles lower down the mountains, and in the areas where the land has not been cultivated.

Then they pack the prickly pears into boxes and take them to Asmara, using donkeys and camels.

Every morning the roads are full of the donkeys and camels walking to and from Asmara from all over the mountains.
