In pictures: 'Millennium Village' in Kenya
The new clinic

The provision of cement and corrugated iron allowed villagers to rebuild their clinic. For its part, the village provided the labour, land, bricks, water, and timber.

The Kenyan government supplies a doctor to staff the clinic two days a week, and it can now treat up to 200 people a day. Outside the village, one doctor is available for 97,000 people.

Sauri women have been trained as health workers. They make regular visits to households, making sure anti-malarial bed nets are being used properly and medicine administered correctly.
