In pictures: Spend or save for the kids?

Christine and Mike Fitzpatrick, from Preston, have been married for 41 years.

With encouragement from their children they became SKI-ers – older people eschewing the traditional fireside lifestyle of a pensioner and 'Spending the Kids' Inheritance' on a full and active life.

Both semi-retired and working part-time at a university the couple spend most of their spare cash and leisure time on foreign travel and hobbies. Christine is particularly adventurous and often holidays without Mike.
