Campaigning for change

Because of its remote location, the Florence Mine remained for months untouched by broadband.

Former centre supervisor Stuart McCrickard campaigned vigorously in the local community to get broadband to the region.

His campaign of leaflet drops paid off and after four months the area hit its trigger level with enough people signed up to make it worthwhile for BT to switch broadband on.

Broadband finally arrived in February 2004.
