This old woman lives in a village in Andhra Pradesh. Most villagers there live on an income of one dollar a day. The country's economic restructuring has substantially reduced state subsidies and welfare schemes. Marginal and small farmers are gradually being edged out of their lands and they are moving to cities to work as labourers. These people voted out the ruling party in Andhra Pradesh in state elections held at the same time as the general elections.
