Photo journal: Violence on the Galapagos Islands

The Galapagos islands, off Ecuador, have witnessed industrial strife marked by violent clashes between competing interests.

The problems have centred on the National Park whose wardens have been on strike.

The wardens were protesting at what they saw as political interference in the running of the park, which was set up in 1959 to preserve the islands' unique ecological heritage.
