Photo journal: Mali guitarist
Traditional music

As well as the Western guitar, I also play the traditional ngoni - a four-stringed fretless instrument.

Here, my fellow musician Moussa Kanoute is playing it during a recording session at Studio Bogolan in Bamako.

I am preparing an album of traditional African music, which also features percussion, the kora and the balafon [a kind of xylophone].

I need three more days in the studio to finish it but I don't have the money - it costs $170 a day.
