Photo journal: Djibouti fisherman
Selling slaves

In the latest in our series on people's daily lives, fisherman Abdu Abdallah Derwis talks about his struggle to sell fish in meat-eating Djibouti.

I am a fisherman from Obock, a small town in the north of Djibouti, close to the Eritrean border and one day's boat ride to Yemen across the Red Sea.

My father was a fisherman, and my grandfather was a boat-builder.

My grandfather also worked with pirates, taking Ethiopian slaves to Yemen and trading them for guns.
