The Desert Locust - Schistocerca gregaria
- changes both colour and behaviour as it develops from the egg.
1. The female locust lays her egg directly into the soil.
2. After two weeks a green coloured juvenile, called a solitary locust, emerges.
3. As the solitary locusts interact with others they turn yellow and black.
4. These locusts, called gregarious locusts, form into swarms.
