Minimum requirement*: 2,100 kilocalories per person per day – 17% of this should be fat and 10-12% protein
In emergencies the basic requirement can be met with about five high-energy biscuits. These are fortified with minerals and vitamins and can be eaten dry or crumbled into water.

Rations must also take into account the how much fuel is available and use foods which require as little cooking as possible. Aid agencies have developed high-efficiency wood and kerosene stoves which reduce the volume of fuel needed.

Providing the rations opposite for 20,000 people would require 5-7 mid-sized trucks per week.

*Requirements recommended by the Sphere Project, an umbrella group of aid agencies
