It takes about 20 minutes to get home from work in central Baghdad, more if the traffic is heavy. Baghdad's in a big mess. It's crowded, it's unsafe, but it's home to me. I belong here for now.

I actually haven't been abroad since 1991 though we used to travel a lot. For 12 years the city's been living in a kind of a bubble under a repressive regime and that's affected the way people think.
