Who backs war? Where the world stands on Iraq

UN Europe Middle East Asia

Non-permanent members

Of the current non-permanent members of the UN Security Council, Spain and Bulgaria back the US and UK position on Iraq, while Germany and Syria are both strongly opposed to military action.

Not all the other non-permanent members - Angola, Cameroon, Chile, Guinea, Mexico and Pakistan – have made it clear how they would vote on a new Iraq resolution. Chile has said it will vote against, and Pakistan and Mexico might abstain. Most have called for more inspections.
