Saudi Arabia: Some 6,600 mainly US airforce personnel are based here. Prince Sultan base in the capital Riyadh serves as an air operations centre, and is likely to play a key part in any attack. A number of British Tornado F3 aircraft are also stationed there.
Two US Patriot missile batteries are stationed near Riyadh to protect against a possible Iraqi missile attack.
