The sixth HMS Victory was already 40 years old, with 20 years of active service, when called into action during the Napoleonic wars.
In her prime she had 104 guns. She also boasted 27 miles of rigging and four acres of sail.
It was here, on the Quarter Deck – the equivalent of a modern ship's Operations Room - at the point where the camera is positioned, that Lord Nelson was felled by a shot from a sniper. He was taken four decks below, where he died four hours later.
