Recommended Immunisations:
Malaria: Some areas carry a higher malaria risk than others - check before you go.
Hepatitis A or immune globulin: Recommended for travel to this region If visiting areas with potentially poor sanitation.
Hepatitis B: If you are staying longer than six months in Haiti or the Dominican Republic.
Typhoid: If you are visiting developing countries in this region.
Yellow fever: If visiting outside urban areas in Trinidad and Tobago.
Other Health Hazards:
Traveller's diarrhoea: Wash hands often, drink only bottled or boiled water, or canned drink, and eat only thoroughly cooked food or fruits.
Dengue Fever, filariasis, leishmaniasis: Carried by insects in this region. Use repellents, stay within screens when practical, wear long-sleeved shirts and trousers.
Schistosomiasis: Parasitic infection found in fresh water. Do not swim in fresh water other than well-maintained swimming pools.
Rabies: Do not handle animals.
