Origins of trafficking victims and gangs

The UK is a major destination for human trafficking victims - mostly women forced to work as prostitutes, the UN says.

Many victims are from Eastern Europe. The UK is the main destination for Lithuanians. Others are from Asia, Africa and South America.

In all, it is thought that 4,000 trafficked women have been brought into the country.

Gangs from Albania, Lithuania and the Czech Republic are among those involved.
