Introduction
Introduction

Almost 3,000 people were killed on 11 September 2001, America's Day of Terror.

Four airliners were hijacked by supporters of al-Qaeda. The first two planes crashed into the World Trade Center's twin towers in New York, the third into the Pentagon in Washington, and the fourth into a field in Pennsylvania.

All those on the planes were killed instantly. Many more died on the ground, crushed by falling buildings.
