A game of noughts and crosses, featuring questions from 98 different categories, with each right answer paying £20. One of ITV's earliest game shows, Criss Cross Quiz started in 1957 and continued for 10 years.

"The most exciting woman in the world", as TV Times billed her, "sings the songs which have made her famous, in the manner she has made her own".

US crime drama starring Robert Lansing, Gregory Walcott and Gena Rowlands, based on the novels by Ed McBain. This episode would have been three or four years old.

The long-running current affairs programme began life in 1956 and continued through to 1992, although it was known as TV Eye for some of its life.

A 1952 British film about an ex-docker who is appointed governor of a Mediterranean island.

The review of the week’s press launched in 1956. It ran until 1981, when it moved to Channel 4, before moving once again to BBC Two in 1989. It is still on the air now, and is still made by Granada.
