1912-14
Nationalist aspirations make the Balkans volatile.

Greece, Montenegro, Serbia and newly-independent Bulgaria attack the enfeebled Ottoman Empire in 1912, extending their territories at its expense.

A peace treaty the following year recognises Albania's independence.

Later in 1913, Romania joins in a second regional war, gaining some territory from Bulgaria.
