Introduction

As part of a BBC News Online series about people's daily lives, a Chechen woman caught up in the ongoing conflict in the southern Russian republic talks about her struggle for survival.

My name is Roza Yusupova. I was born in Kazakhstan in 1958, where thousands of Chechens were deported by Stalin, and have lived with my family in Grozny on and off since 1980.

My husband disappeared here three years ago but we still hope he will return.
