ROCK WERCHTER
Werchter, Belgium
26-29 June
Belgium's Rock Werchter entered its 30th year in 2003, after starting in 1974 with local acts Kandahar and Banzai playing to a crowd of 1,000 people.
Now the festival, based to the east of Brussels, is a four-day event, with a site that can hold 70,000 people.
This summer's festival stalwarts Massive Attack, Metallica, Radiohead and REM all appeared, while Tricky, 2 Many DJs and hotly-tipped British singer-songwriter Tom McRae were among the alternatives in the Pyramid Marquee.
