Pukkelpop is probably the most avowedly "alternative" of all the big European festivals.

It is run by a group called the Humanistic Youth of Leopoldsburg, and aims to be a "progressive and contemporary" musical event, having grown from six bands in 1985 to over 100 in 2002.

The Foo Fighters, Beck, Suede, PJ Harvey and Courtney Love will be headlining this year, with Lamb, Mogwai, The Datsuns and Zero 7 among the supporting cast.
