The Netherlands' most famous festival, Pinkpop, has been going since 1970 - when the George Baker Selection were on the bill - but it only became a weekend-long event in 1994.

This year saw Moby, Massive Attack and Manu Chao play at the event, held at Megaland in Landgraaf, to the south of the country.

Placebo, Linkin Park and Dutch rock superstar Anouk were among the other acts playing, along with Queens of the Stone Age, Deftones and Counting Crows.

But Coldplay pulled out of the festival to extend their US tour - which organisers said slowed ticket sales down.
