Amy Klobuchar held retiring Senator Mark Dayton's seat for the Democrats.

In the House, Democrat Keith Ellison was elected as the nation's first Muslim member of Congress. The Republican-held 1st district fell to the Democrats but the Republicans held on to the 6th.

The Democrats failed to take the governorship from the Republicans.

SENATE
Democratic candidate Amy Klobuchar beat Republican candidate Mark Kennedy. Republican Norm Coleman holds the other Senate seat.
