Month in brief:
John Kerry wins a string of primaries to emerge as clear frontrunner for the democratic nomination. He follows wins in five of the 'Super Seven' states with victories in Maine, Michigan, Washington, Virginia, Tennessee and Wisconsin.

Analysts say the victories in Tennessee and Virginia show Mr Kerry can attract voters in southern states, seen as crucial to any presidential bid.

Joe Lieberman quits the race after a poor performance in Delaware andWesley Clark withdraws despite a win Oklahoma. One-time frontrunner Howard Dean quits after Wisconsin, having failed to win any primaries.
