Introduction:

On 16 January 2003 the space shuttle Columbia lifted off from Kennedy Space Center in Florida for its 28th flight into space.

Fifteen days later, mission STS-107 ended in tragedy when the spacecraft disintegrated while re-entering the Earth's atmosphere. All seven astronauts on board were killed.
