Every time I visited Gitera Rwamuhuzi he exuded an air of cocky confidence. He was not only a leader of one of the killing gangs – but even in prison he is a leader.
Notice his impeccably clean and immaculately pressed prison suit. Often he seemed completely at odds with the person some investigators say killed as many as 100 people.
But when I photographed him with his fellow prisoners, I could feel their fear of him.
