Beatrice and a group of local farmers are repairing a road which passes close to their homes.

They hope the government in Nairobi will give them food in exhange for their labour.

However, despite the food shortages, Beatrice is not expecting a famine in Nzeluni.

"Nobody has ever died of hunger here," she says.
