Food shortages

The drought gripping much of Kenya has been described by President Mwai Kibaki as a national disaster.

More than three million Kenyans are facing serve food shortages, while 60% of crops have failed in five out of eight of the country's provinces.

Beatrice Mwanzi lives in the rocky village of Nzeluni, in Kenya's Eastern province.

Authorities in the district say 35% of households are going to be dependent on food aid over the next six months.
