In Pictures: South Africa's freedom day

On 10 May 1994, Nelson Mandela is inaugurated as South Africa's first black president.

Addressing a 100,000-strong crowd gathered in Pretoria, Mr Mandela said: "Never, never again will this beautiful land experience the oppression of one by another."

Jubilant scenes on the streets of Pretoria follow the ceremony, with blacks, whites and coloureds celebrating together.
