Cataract clinic

As part of a BBC News Online series about people's daily lives, Nogaye Gueye, 58, describes the day her sight was restored after two years. There are more than six million blind people in sub-Saharan Africa.

My niece Bousso heard on the radio that some Gambian cataract doctors were visiting Senegal and took me to the clinic where they were based for one weekend to see if they could help.

They gave me the good news that the sight could be brought back to my right eye.
